The Event Cherokee County Shows Up for Every Year

Afternoon at The Oscars is KNOW2's annual awards fundraiser — an afternoon of community recognition, celebration, and investment in Cherokee County that has grown every year for five consecutive years. Oyster roast. BBQ. Four awards. One room full of the people who make this county work.

Named for Oscar Fuller. Built for Cherokee County.

Afternoon at The Oscars takes its name from Oscar Fuller, the founding spirit of KNOW2 and a Cherokee County community leader whose legacy this organization carries forward. Naming the event after him wasn't just a tribute — it was a statement about what the evening is for. This is a night to recognize the people who show up for Cherokee County the way Oscar did: consistently, generously, and without waiting for recognition.

Ten years in, Afternoon at the Oscars has become one of the most anticipated events on the Cherokee County community calendar. In 2026 alone, the event drew 250–300 attendees and grossed approximately $46,000 in a single evening — a number that reflects the depth of investment this community brings to the work.

The Four Awards

Oscar Fuller Legacy Award

The evening's signature award, given to an individual whose long-term commitment to Cherokee County reflects the founding spirit of KNOW2 and the legacy of Oscar Fuller himself. This award recognizes sustained, meaningful community investment — not a single act, but a body of work.

Best Supporting Actress & Actor

Recognized the individual, organization, or initiative that has provided critical support to another community effort — the partner, collaborator, or behind-the-scenes force that made something possible for someone else.

Rising Star

Given to an emerging community leader, young professional, or new initiative showing exceptional early impact in Cherokee County. Each year, we also recognize one student from Gaffney High School and one from Blacksburg High School — because the next generation of Cherokee County leaders deserves a stage too.

Corporate Partner

Awarded to a local business whose investment in Cherokee County community work goes beyond writing a check — a company actively contributing to the organizations and initiatives that make this county stronger. This is also the award category most relevant to event sponsors.

Sponsor Afternoon at the Oscars

Afternoon at the Oscars reaches 250–300 Cherokee County community members, leaders, and business owners in a single evening. Sponsorship puts your company's name alongside the county's most recognized community work — in event materials, on-site signage, and in front of the room that shows up for Cherokee County every year.

The Corporate Partner award is specifically designated for businesses investing in Cherokee County through community partnerships, sponsorships, and direct support of local organizations. Sponsors are eligible for nomination.
